 MARKET SUMMARY FOR 20 JAN 2020

Nifty registered their deep  fall in two weeks after opening at all-time highs. The Sensex fell nearly 1 % to close at 41528 &  the Nifty slipped 0.98 % to end at 12230.. The market breadth  was in favour of  bears . About 1,163 stocks declined and 634 shares advanced on  NSE .after announcing December quarter results Reliance ( 1.8 %), HDFC Bank (2.1 %) & Federal bank (32%)  the market had managed to open higher. but the higher opening got converted into hefty profit taking and that has triggered deep decline during the day Shares of Federal Bank fluctuated between gains and losses to trade 1 % lower at Rs 90.65 ,while  TCS   Stock  1.4 % ,L&T Stock 2.3 %, Jindal Steel and Power stock 2.8 % slipped today. Vodafone Idea, NHPC, YES Bank, Indian Oil Corp, PowerGrid, Tata Motors, NMDC, Ashok Leyland, Bharti Airtel and L&T Fin Holding were star stock of the today’s market.

Monday  we will see quarterly results of  HDFC Bank Kotak Bank & Federal Bank  Besides, Chennai Petroleum, Compucom, Cupid, Goa Carbon,and Bank of Maharashtra, Can Fin Homes,  HFCL, Hindustan Zinc, Just Dial will announce their October-December results.Hdfc bank is the second largest private sector lender of country now we expected to report more than 20 % year-on-year growth in profit for the quarter ended December 2019, partly driven by lower tax cost & in  Kotak Bank We expect gross NPL ratio @ 1.5 % of loans, which is a marginal increase qoq. The bank is likely to utilize the contingent provisions for any slippage from the corporate portfolio in stock Brokerages remained bullish & it is one of their top picks among banks. The stock rallied 3.6 % during the quarter and gained more than 20 percent in last one year.The market's expectation for Budget 2020 is solid given the government's vision to push the slowing economy, support industries, increase cash in hand of common-man and increase rural income to boost consumption.The market also expects sector-specific goodies for segments such as auto, infra, realty, aquaculture and housing. Scrappage policy is expected for auto, which may be announced outside the Budget while the future focus will be on electric vehicles (EVs). The market may be a bit inspective given the fudging of the past two years of budgeting while real performance was sluggish. But at the same time, it is commendable that the market feels that a large part of the sudden hike in inflation is due to a sudden one-time increase in prices of specific food items and oil which will subside in the next two to three months . To take further direction the market may want to see more of the ongoing Q3 results, given the marginally higher non-performing assets in recent bank results and actual Budget outcome.

Today Market swung between up & down in the opening trade. Today Sensex rose 0.03 % to end at 41945 & the Nifty was down 0.03 % to close at 12352.  Market ended flat ahead of the quarterly results announcement of the nation’s two largest firm’s reliance hiked 11% & HCL hiked 3.6 %. The HCL & reliance were the star performers the day. Shares of HCL Tech hits record high at1.4% Rs 601 ahead of its December quarter results announcement. The shares of TCS were down by 1.2 % to Rs 2213 due to quarterly result announcement. TCS falls 2.2 %. The Shares of Vodafone idea slipped 39% & Shares of Bharti Airtel hiked 5 % to Rs 498, while shares of BhartiInfratel & Grasim Industries fell 13.5 % & 6 % respectively today. RIL seen 6 %,. Six out of 11 sectoral gauges compiled by NSE ended lower, led by the Nifty Bank Index’s 0.83% fall. On the flipside, the Nifty Pharma was the top sectoral gainer up 1.7%.
