Sensex
ended with a gain of 131 points at 24,628. The Sensex opened at 24,537 touched
an intra-day high of 24,706 and low of 24,355. The NSE Nifty closed with a gain
of 38 points at 7,499. The Nifty opened at 7,457 hitting a high of 7,508 and
low of 7,405.The Indian
equity market managed to close with some gains on Wednesday amid a sudden bout
of buying at the fag end. The Nifty was just shy off the 7500 mark.
Markets had opened on a flat note and lost further ground imitating overnight
losses in the US and the Asian markets. However, it was short-lived as indices
made a swift comeback led by the banking, IT, FMCG and healthcare stocks. On
the other hand, metals, consumer durables and telecom stocks were among the
major losers. Even the mid-cap and the small-cap stocks were under pressure.
